Rangers Players Warned of Mass Redundancies

The playing and office staff of Rangers Football Club have been told to expect widespread redundancies after talks between administrators and players broke down. The talks took place on Wednesday and were hoping to see some of the biggest earners at the club take a 75% paycut with lesser earners deferring between 25 and 50% but they the proposed deals were rejected.

The administrators in charge of sorting out the financial situation at the club have revealed they are attempting to claim £3.6 million that owner Craig Whyte has in a bank account but has also warned a number or creditors are due a large percenatge of that money.

The situation looks bleak for Rangers to say the least and they face the prispect of being liquidated and unable to complete the season. Rangers are next in league action against Dundee United on March 17 and with all their problems they are not priced as favourites to win possibly for the first time (outside Celtic matches) in the last 10-15 years.

Peyton Manning's Reps Contacted By 12 NFL Teams

He may have only left the Indianapolis Colts yesterday but it appears that Peyton Manning will not be without a team for very long after no fewer than 12 different NFL teams contacted his representatives in order to confirm their interest in the four-time MVP.

Manning flew to Miami on the afternoon of his release which has sparked rumours that he is set to sign for the Dolphins, and the Dolphins added fuel to the fire by declaring their interest in the veteran quarterback.

But any deal is going to be weeks away be it with the Dolphins or any other team because although most NFL sides would like Manning on their book the majority of them could not afford to have him there.

ESPN has more on the Manning situation.

Statue of Mario Lemieux Unveiled

The Pittsburgh Penguins have unveiled a solid bronze statue of Mario Lemieux outside the Consol Energy Centre. The statue shows Lemieux splitting a pair of defensemen on his way to scoring against the New York Islanders back in 1988.

Lemieux is part of the NHL Hall of Fame after scoring 690 goals during his 17 year career and is widely regarded as one of the best centrs to have ever played the game.

At the unveiling the Penguins legend said, "It illustrates my career on and off the ice. I was known for breakaways early in my career and in the early '90s, so this was a perfect photo that we picked."

Scores of fans will see the statue at tomorrow's Pittsburgh Penguins vs Florida Panthers game.

Niklas Bendtner Feared He Would Be Blinded

The Sunderland and Denmark striker Niklas Bendtner has revealed he feared he was going to be blind following his fractured eye socket sustained against Swansea City in January. The 24 year old, on loan from Arsenal, received a kick in the face from Angel Rangel.

Bendtner spoke about his injury to BBC Sport, "I couldn't see out of the eye for four ot five hours and had to stay in hospital overnight as well."

The Dane has been wearing a protective face mask since returning from injury and it does not appear to have done him any harm as he opened the scoring in the 1-1 draw with local rivals on Sunday and will be hoping to do the same when the Black Cats host Liverpool at the weekend.
